Networking might be an introvert’s least favorite activity, but it doesn’t need to be! On August 8th, join WEST for Networking for Introverts: How To Effectively Connect. Led by introverts, for introverts, this event will include a panel discussion, interactive games, facilitated discussions, and open networking sessions that will make networking approachable to everyone.
WEST Board member and Director of Immunology at Sanofi, Leah Cole, will moderate a panel discussion featuring accomplished, self-identified introverts that hold various roles in the Biotech/Pharma industry. The panel will feature Jahna Soomer James, Senior Associate Scientist at Mersana Therapeutics, Rashmi Korke-Kshirsagar, Senior Vice President of Technical Development and CMC Development at Be Biopharma, Pallavi Srivastava, CEO of The Wellbeing Ways, and Jo Viney, Co-Founder and CEO of Seismic Therapeutic. In describing the event Leah shared that “the goal for the event is to learn from introverted individuals that have figured out how to make networking work for them. Therefore, it is not about how to act like an extrovert and network, but rather how to network as an introvert.”
One approach that might speak to introverts is reframing the purpose of networking. Instead of being viewed as a career advancement strategy, networking can be viewed as an opportunity to develop genuine connections with interesting people. The event will provide additional insights and tools for creating a mindset shift. Participants will also learn about practical strategies for networking. There will also be a discussion about the hurdles that introverts face while networking and effective strategies to overcome these challenges. All great tips for helping introverts reap the benefits of networking while staying true to themselves!
This in-person event will also include small group discussions and games to help attendees cement learnings about networking while remaining their genuine selves. Attendees will walk away from this event with practical tools and strategies to help them create authentic and confident connections through networking.
WEST has a long history of supporting introverts. In May, WEST hosted an event about being Introverted & Influential - focusing on bringing visibility to introverts in the workplace. Our annual summer reading recommendations from WEST leadership includes the book Quiet, by Susan Cain, which shows the negative impacts of ignoring the values that introverts bring and shares true stories of introverts in a variety of relatable situations. We’ve also discussed how introverts can overcome the limiting beliefs that there are skills, that they simply can’t excel at.
