What’s in your portfolio? Join us on Thursday, 4/29 at 5:30 p.m. EST to hear experienced financial advisors explore strategies for aligning your investment portfolio with your personal values through impact investing.
In this interactive discussion, we will hear from Judith Reed, a financial advisor at Morgan Stanley who specializes in helping women in the Life Sciences industry create financial plans for themselves and their families, and William Gambardella, Executive Director of the Morgan Stanley Wealth Management Global Investment Office (GIO).
Reed, who has worked in the investment industry since 1983, notes that while the idea of impact investing is not new, the field is evolving as we learn more about how to make the planet and our lives better. While impact-conscious investors once focused primarily on restrictive investing, today's investors are looking for companies that are actively attentive to environmental and social issues. Companies have a mandate from shareholders, the government, and their peers to be aware of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors such as reducing the gender wage gap, standing against racism, and reducing negative environmental impact.
Reed encourages individual investors interested in applying an impact-focused lens to ask their financial advisor how the companies and mutual funds in a given account, such as a 401(k), perform when it comes to ESG factors. Rather than thinking about impact investing as a category in itself, investors can look for companies that consider ESG factors as essential to achieving success and long-term value creation.
