While we hoped that the COVID-19 Pandemic would come to a full close before the start of 2022, it has lingered on. The effects of this continue to impact how we work, where we work, the world we work and live in, our personal lives and relationships, and so much more. In addition to this, we have seen history come crashing down in Ukraine as the people of Ukraine have had to flee, some even separating from their families to offer the best protection they can for their children.
The world we live in has been shaken, paused, and isolated over the past two years. WEST is recognizing the strength and resilience of each and every one of us, particularly the women that continued to strive to care for their families, their work, and the world around them with our 2022-2023 Annual Theme: Strong Women, Strong Science, Strong World.
This year’s theme is truly a tribute to the inspirational people, stories, and accomplishments that have risen from the cloud of the pandemic, and from the ashes of war-torn villages around the world. We look to, and are inspired by the strong voices of women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields to foster a thriving global STEM community. These are the women that have taken part in speaking for their communities in need, researching and developing vaccines, medications, and technologies that have saved lives and allowed the world to begin to return to ‘normal,’ and have reminded us just how important our family is. These are the women who have used their voices to rise above conflict in order to strengthen the many shaken communities around the world. These inspirational women are the voices that WEST is here to amplify, encourage, inspire, and connect with to harness their power and foster a thriving global STEM community that works to strengthen the world we live in.
As we continue to work towards returning to, and in some ways creating a new ‘normal’ in our world, we are grateful to the friends and allies of the STEM community that continue to support WEST and its many inspirational members. We stand to continue to highlight Strong Women, Strong Science, and a Strong World for this year, and many, many years to come.
